From Vinnytsia to Camp Dreamland: 45 Children Will Experience Healing, Adventure, and Hope

This summer, 45 children from Vinnytsia will pack their bags for an adventure unlike any other.

Through a growing partnership between the Boulder–Vinnytsia Sister City Initiative and Frontier Horizon, these young campers will travel to the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains to attend Camp Dreamland—a week filled with outdoor adventures, new friendships, laughter, and experiences that every child deserves.

For children growing up in Ukraine today, opportunities like this carry a deeper meaning. Nearly every child has been shaped in some way by the realities of war. Whether through disrupted routines, time away from loved ones, interrupted education, the constant uncertainty of daily life, or simply growing up in a nation fighting for its future, childhood has looked very different over the past several years.

Camp Dreamland offers something wonderfully simple: a chance to be a kid.

300 children came together for the 2025 Summer Camp Dreamland in the beautiful Carpathian Mountains, sharing a week filled with laughter, friendship, adventure, and unforgettable memories. This year, we're proud that 45 children from Vinnytsia are among those experiencing the joy, connection, and hope that Camp Dreamland brings.

A Week That Lasts Much Longer

No summer camp can erase the challenges children have experienced.

But it can remind them that joy still exists.

It can introduce lifelong friendships, trusted mentors, and moments of confidence that continue long after the week has ended.

Nestled in the mountains of western Ukraine, Camp Dreamland gives children the opportunity to hike, explore nature, create art, play games, enjoy music, and build friendships with other young people from across Ukraine. Perhaps most importantly, it provides an environment where children can laugh freely, discover new strengths, and create memories defined not by conflict, but by adventure.

Frontier Horizon: Turning Compassion Into Action

For more than two decades, Colorado-based nonprofit Frontier Horizon has worked alongside vulnerable children and communities around the world, building relationships that create lasting change.

When the war made the organization's long-standing international hosting program impossible, Frontier Horizon adapted. Camp Dreamland was born from a simple but powerful idea: if children couldn't safely travel abroad, volunteers could bring encouragement, friendship, and unforgettable experiences to them.

Since then, hundreds of children have participated in Camp Dreamland, and this year, 45 children from Vinnytsia will become part of that growing story.

What Friendship Between Cities Looks Like

Sometimes international partnerships produce large infrastructure projects.

Sometimes they create educational exchanges.

Sometimes they connect healthcare professionals, artists, or engineers.

And sometimes they make it possible for 45 children to spend a week laughing in the mountains.

The Boulder–Vinnytsia Sister City Initiative exists to create these kinds of meaningful connections—bringing together nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses, educators, and volunteers who believe that communities become stronger when they invest in one another.

Camp Dreamland is one beautiful example of what happens when those connections become action.
