Building Hope Through Play: A New Playground for Vinnytsia's Children
One of the greatest strengths of the Boulder–Vinnytsia Sister City Partnership is the way it brings people together around a shared purpose. Long before the official Sister City Declaration was signed, community leaders, volunteers, and service organizations on both sides of the Atlantic were already building relationships and working together to support the people of Vinnytsia.
One of the newest examples of that collaboration is a community playground project that will provide children in Vinnytsia with a safe place to play, families with a welcoming gathering space, and the community with another symbol of hope and resilience.
A Place to Simply Be a Child
For many children in Ukraine, the simple act of playing has become something that cannot be taken for granted. Years of war have brought air raid sirens, displacement, damaged infrastructure, and profound emotional stress. While communities continue rebuilding homes, schools, and essential services, spaces where children can safely laugh, explore, and simply enjoy being kids are equally important to a community's long-term recovery.
A playground is much more than swings and slides. It is a place where friendships are formed, confidence is built, families gather, and children experience moments of joy that help restore a sense of normalcy. These everyday experiences play an important role in strengthening both individual well-being and the resilience of the broader community.
A Collaborative Effort Across Continents
This project reflects exactly what the Boulder–Vinnytsia Sister City Partnership hopes to inspire: people and organizations working together to accomplish something meaningful that no one could achieve alone.
The playground has been made possible through the collaboration and generosity of Rotary clubs and community leaders in Boulder, Vinnytsia, and the Netherlands. The effort has been spearheaded by Boulder Rotarians Michael Brady and Bill Meyer, working closely with members of the Rotary Club of Vinnytsia and local project partners in Ukraine to bring the vision to life.
Financial support has come from Rotary clubs and supporters across multiple countries, demonstrating the power of international service and friendship. What began as conversations between dedicated volunteers has grown into a tangible investment in Vinnytsia's future—and another example of the relationships that continue to flourish through the Sister City partnership.

This playground is the result of collaboration between Boulder Rotary Club, the Rotary Club Vinnytsia Initiative in Ukraine, participating Rotary clubs throughout the United States and the Netherlands, Sister City board members and project leaders Michael Brady of Generosity Wealth Management and Bill Meyer, and the many donors, volunteers, and community members who contributed their time, expertise, and financial support.
Their collective efforts are creating more than a playground—they are strengthening an international friendship and investing in the next generation of children in Vinnytsia.
